Key Points

  • The Met Gala is fashion’s biggest night doubling as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It’s a chance for the globe’s biggest celebs to get together and celebrate American fashion.
  • This year, the theme celebrated gilded glamor and the fashion of the Gilded Age. It was crucial for attendees to celebrate the Gilded Age within their Met Gala makeup looks to follow the theme.
  • Face jewels, shimmer and glitter, light eyebrows, dramatic rosy cheeks, and dramatic black eyeliner were all trends of the night.

1. Olivia Rodrigo

Not only is Olivia the new it-girl young rock star in Hollywood, but she recently just became the first-ever celebrity partner and face of Glossier – a beauty brand that launched in 2014 (2). That’s a huge deal. For her second year at the Met Gala, Olivia naturally went for a full face of Glossier with her signature color purple on her lids. Luckily, Olivia’s makeup artist, Lilly Keys, took to Instagram to share the exact products she used on Olivia for the Met Gala makeup look. If you want to recreate Olivia’s look, check out these products from Glossier:

2. Normani

Normani’s eye-catching makeup look was definitely giving gilded glamour with her extra-blushy cheeks and penciled-on beauty marks. Like her outfit for the night, Normani took a modernized approach to gilded glamour with her makeup, as shown through her burgundy tinted eyebrows and shimmery green shade all over her lids. While Normani’s makeup artist, Priscilla Ono, hasn’t yet listed the exact products she used on Normani’s face, she did mention that she used House of Lashes for the look.

3. Janicza Bravo

Janicza Bravo is an American film director, producer, and writer who curated two rooms in the exhibit for the Met Gala. She completely stunned on the red carpet with her gorgeous blue eyeshadow look and bright red lip.

4. Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline brought out the blue of her gown on her eyes with her baby blue, shimmery shadow. To make the look even more stunning, her makeup artist, Clarissa Luna, added Swarovski crystals and pearls around the eyes.

5. Emma Chamberlain

Back at the Met Gala for another year, Emma went for a soft, romantic look with a pop of 24k gold leaf on her lids to pay homage to the gilded glamour theme. Emma’s makeup artist, Kelsey Deenihan Fisher, luckily broke down Emma’s gorgeous look on Instagram. The entire look used Bare Minerals.

6. Sophie Turner

Sophie’s makeup for the Met Gala this year really encapsulated the theme of Gilded Glamour. With a bold red lipstick, light eyebrows, and light burgundy eyeshadow that surrounded her eyes, her makeup artist nailed the look.

7. Quannah Chasinghorse

Quannah looked absolutely gorgeous in her baby blue eyeshadow that perfectly matched her gown for the night. Her makeup artist, Carolina Dali, used a full face of the Westman Atelier brand to complete the look.

9. Alicia Keys

Alicia’s makeup for the night perfectly matched her black gown that was embellished with crystals that outlined the skyline of her home – New York City. To match this, Alicia wore an eye-makeup look from artist Ayako Yoshimura with black winged liner and crystals on her lid. The look used products from Alicia’s beauty company, Keys Soulcare.

10. Venus Williams

Wearing an all-black look, Venus went full-glam with her hair and makeup for the night. She had a black smoky eye with a pop of shimmer in the inner corner, crystals all over the lid and sides of her eyes, and a bold lip.

11. Ashley Park

For her Met Gala look, Ashley’s makeup artist Tonya Brewer used a full face of Dior beauty. The key part of Ashley’s look was a green eyeliner used above her crease, which added a pop of color to the face.

12. Camila Mendes

Camila was giving gilded glamour in gold with her glittery gold eyes and gold highlighter that extended down her cheeks. Her makeup artist, Carolina Gonzalez, used a full face of Armani Beauty.

13. Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe’s makeup, done by Susie Sobol, was minimal but stunning and complimented both her gown and the theme. She wore a light champagne shimmery shadow all over her lips with a dark maroon lipstick.

14. Kaia Gerber

Kaia’s makeup was done by artist Naoko Sofia Patrizia Scintu, who covered the lids in a bronze, iridescent shade. Like a lot of other Met Gala makeup looks, the entire face used one brand: YSL Beauty.

15. Isabelle Boemeke

Isabelle’s makeup was done by artist Tami El Sombati. Her look was completed with eccentric graphic liner and face jewels.

16. Teyana Taylor

Teyana looked stunning with a bold and vibrant purple makeup look that perfectly captured the vibe of her blue and purple gown for the night. Her makeup artist, YeikaGlow, used a ton of products for the look that she listed on Instagram.

17. Jodie-Turner Smith

18. Tessa Thompson

Tessa captured the theme of gilded glamour with her rosy cheeks that extended into her temples, a matching shade for her eyeshadow, and a dark lip.

19. Megan Thee Stallion

Meg took her classic glam to the next level this year for the Met Gala! Using Revlon Beauty to complete the look, Megan captured the angelic vibe of her look for the night with her makeup through a bright shimmery shade on her lids and brow bone that cut through a dark smoky eye on the outer lid.

20. Kiki Layne

Drawing from the pink petals on her gown, Kiki’s makeup was one of the most creative and eye-catching Met Gala makeup looks of the night. Using Fashion Fair Cosmetics, her makeup artist Billiegene covered Kiki’s eyes with tiny pink petals that matched the rosy pink blush on her cheeks.

21. Chloe Kim

Chloe Kim’s first Met Gala was definitely one to remember with her gorgeous makeup look. Matching her white and red gown, Chloe sported a light red shadow all over her lids, small red jewels in her inner corner, and a bright red lip.

22. Dove Cameron

Dove Cameron followed suit with the trends of the night by covering her lid and temples with white jewels that matched her dress. She also sported a dramatic black eyeliner with a light, almost nude, pink lip.

23. Maisie Williams

For her Met Gala look, Maisie captured the gilded glamour theme with her bleached brows and dark red lip. She also wore a classic winged liner done by her makeup artist Yumi Lee.

24. Karlie Kloss

Drawing from her all-black look, Karlie Kloss sported a red lip with heavy black eye makeup. She wore a heavy black smoky eye with dark eyeliner that extended below the lash line.

25. Cara Delevingne

Painted in all gold for the night, Cara’s makeup was no exception. She wore white and gold jewels all over her lid and under her lash line. The jewels were used almost as a liner, as they took the shape of a classic cat-eye. She also sported a pink lip with gold shimmer gloss.

26. Lucy Boynton

In her look full of Chanel Beauty, Lucy wore one of the most dramatic jeweled Met Gala makeup looks of the night. She had a dark black liner on the upper and lower lash line with jewels covering the top of the lid. However, she had jewels on the bottom lash line as well that hung down and gave a fringe effect.

27. Iris Law

Using Dior Beauty, Iris brought out the blues of her Moschino gown by sporting a light blue shadow all over the eye, extending far into her inner corner.

28. Fredrik Robertsson

Fredrik had one of the most stunning Met Gala makeup looks of the night, and of course, face jewels were involved. Do you smell a trend? For his makeup look, he donned a dramatic black smoky eye with light shimmer in the inner corners and crystal gems that surrounded the shape of his eye.

29. Rianne Van Rompaey

For her first Met Gala, Rianne covered her lid with sparkly gold shadow, which contrasted her all-red look, drew attention to the eyes, and paid homage to the theme.

30. Alton Mason

For Alton’s look, the lid stayed bare while attention was drawn to the lower lash line. It seemed to be a reverse cat eye, as the lower liner winged out at the end of the lid and at the inner corner. The dramatic black eyeliner look matched perfectly with the drama of the model’s outfit for the night.

31. Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu looked absolutely stunning in her yellow makeup look of the night. Her look stands out from the night as being both bold and creative as Badu only wore the yellow shade in the area between her two inner corners and all over the nose.

35. Maude Apatow

Maude’s makeup artist for the Met Gala was the same as Emma Chamberlain’s – Kelsey Deenihan Fisher. Maude’s look was a nod to gilded glamour with her dark red lip, rosy cheeks, and subtle eye. Unlike Emma’s look, for Maude, Kelsey used a full face of Armani Beauty instead of Bare Minerals. Products used on Maude are as follows:
