The Inside Scoop on the NO7 Menopause Skincare Collection
NO7 Beauty has just launched its new NO7 menopause skincare collection, aimed at helping those experiencing menopause with their skin changes. Referred to as the UK’s best-kept skincare secret, NO7 Beauty put itself ahead of the rest with a five-product skincare collection co-created with over 7,000 menopausal women.
Just like any other skincare collection, it’s important to know what you’re buying before you buy – so the most important question remains: is the NO7 menopause skincare collection worth it?
- NO7 Beauty launched its new NO7 menopause skincare collection to help those experiencing menopause with their skin changes.
- The range is designed to help skin behave as if estrogen was still present, targeting what perimenopausal people experience at all stages.
- Products include skin-benefiting ingredients such as niacinamide, ceramides, lipids, vitamin C, green tea, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and more.
How Was the Collection Created?
According to NO7 Beauty, the Menopause skincare collection was expertly designed and co-created with over 7,000 menopausal women to target menopause skin changes (1). This includes symptoms of reduced estrogen and collagen, which can result in dull skin and signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles. The new range of skincare was recently launched at the UK health and beauty retailer Boots, with prices starting from £14.95 (2).
Not only was the NO7 menopause skincare collection created with input from thousands of menopausal women, but it also was developed by NO7 scientists following five years of research in partnership with the University of Manchester. This comes as part of a 20-year partnership with the University of Manchester, conducting rigorous and insightful research to develop creams, serums, and mists for the new line.
To make the best products for their customers, NO7 Beauty researched how and why the skin changes through perimenopause and menopause.
Menopause and the Skin
The range of products was designed to help skin behave as if estrogen was still present, targeting what perimenopausal people experience at the start of their journey, during, and after. NO7 studied the visual effects of collagen and lipid depletion in the skin at all stages.
Hormone levels fluctuate dramatically in the years preceding, during, and after menopause, and each change impacts the skin. As estrogen drops, so does the production of collagen, lipids, and ceramides. Depletion of these three can affect your skin’s elasticity, ability to retain moisture, and ability to protect itself from free radicals.
Without anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants, the skin becomes sensitive and irritated, vulnerable to pollution, and susceptible to protective barrier harm. In fact, some of the most commonly reported concerns by menopausal people are:
- loss of elasticity
- redness (3)
The Full NO7 Menopause Skincare Collection
NO7 is well-known in the UK beauty world for providing results-driven formulas at reasonable price points, and this cruelty-free collection is no different. It is full of products that contain ingredients meant for targeting signs of aging, dryness, and elasticity, such as niacinamide and ceramides.
1. Protect & Hydrate Day Cream
Designed to smooth and even out skin tone, this cream has been shown through consumer studies to provide 72-hour hydration for sensitive skin. The formula contains niacinamide, SPF 30, green tea, and vitamin C. In a study, 94% of menopausal women agreed their skin felt moisturized and softer after their first use of the product.
Alongside SPF, green tea has a plethora of health benefits including protecting the skin from free radical damage. Green tea can also reduce redness, even out skin tone, and reduce signs of sun damage. Vitamin C boosts collagen production and fights inflammation. Niacinamide can improve skin texture by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, restoring hydration, and preventing oxidative stress caused by free radicals.
2. Instant Radiance Serum
The serum is used to improve the appearance of collagen-depleted skin, which can appear dull and dry, and is prone to fine lines and wrinkles. The formula contains hyaluronic acid, collagen peptide technology, lipids, ceramides, and soy isoflavones.
Topical hyaluronic acid can restore the skin’s levels of hyaluronic acid, increasing hydration, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and restoring skin elasticity. Peptides can also boost collagen, hydrate the skin, firm and brighten the skin, and boost cell exfoliation.
3. Nourishing Overnight Cream
With dryness being one of the main concerns for menopausal people, the overnight cream is designed to provide extreme hydration for dry and sensitive skin. Through studies, NO7 has determined that consumers will experience deeply moisturized and visibly refreshed skin in one week. The formula contains ceramides, lipids, soy isoflavones, and hyaluronic acid. Ceramides help the skin maintain a strong protective barrier, can work to repair skin damage, and restore moisture to the skin.
4. Instant Cooling Mist
This mist is tailored to hot flashes, which menopausal people typically experience over their faces, necks, and chests. The mist is designed to cool and calm the hot skin. The formula contains water, glycerin, and rosadamascena flower oil.
Glycerin is perfect for moisturizing and hydrating the skin, is calming for sensitive and irritated skin, is anti-inflammatory, and even has anti-aging properties. According to a consumer study, 92% of menopausal women agreed the mist helped their skin feel instantly cool.
5. Firm & Bright Eye Concentrate
While this has not yet been released, we still can get some insight into the product. This cream is specifically formulated to target dark circles and wrinkles and has been shown through consumer studies to reduce both in only four weeks by brightening and firming the skin around the eyes.
The formula contains hyaluronic acid, collagen peptide technology, lipids, ceramides, and soy isoflavones. Soy isoflavones are a class of plant-derived compounds that have estrogenic activity and a positive effect on serum lipid concentrations (4). Through studies, soy isoflavones have been shown to increase the number of elastic and collagen fibers, changing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to reduce the signs of aging (5).
