Key Points

  • Lip oils are a high-quality alternative to lip glosses
  • Lip oils are packed with beneficial ingredients like hyaluronic acid and avocado oil
  • Kosas, Dior, and Tarte carry three of the best lips oils on the market

Why You Should Switch to Using The Best Lip Oils

Lip oils reign superior to lip glosses for a handful of reasons. Dermatologists admire them for the beneficial ingredients loaded into the formulas. Beauty gurus admire them for their high shine and non-sticky formulas. Both love lip oils for their ability to replenish, soften, revitalize, and protect the lips.

As Sharpay Evans would say, it’s out with the old and in with the new! It is time to ditch your lip gloss and say hello to the best lip oils you can get your hands on.

How To Use Lip Oils

According to dermatologists, lip oils are best used when combined with a humectant, or moisture drawing ingredient. Examples of humectant lip products include but are not limited to Aquaphor or Vaseline. After applying your humectant lip product of choice, seal in your added moisture by applying a lip oil that contains an emollient.

Ingredients to Look for in Lip Oils

When purchasing a new lip oil, look for emollient ingredients that are hydrating and packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and more. Not sure what ingredients classify as an emollient? Here’s a list to be on the lookout for.

  • Avocado Oil

Avocado oil boasts the best rating from Paula’s Choice Skincare dictionary. Avocado has hydration, anti-aging, and antioxidant benefits thanks to the oil's abundance of fatty acids and antioxidant properties.

  • Almond Oil

Next up we have almond oil which has also been given a Best rating. Like avocado oil, pure almond oil is fragrance-free making it a great ingredient option for those sensitive to fragrances. Almond oil is packed with triglycerides and fatty acids which are beneficial for replenishing the skin.

  • Coconut Oil

Coconut oil provides an overwhelming amount of hydration thanks to its high saturated fat content. Coconut oil is known as a rich source of medium-chain triglycerides which are fatty acids.

  • Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a fan favorite and for good reason. First, the oil provides hydrating, anti-aging, and skin-soothing benefits. Secondly, the texture of the oil is consistent with the oil that our skin produces. Thus, it is a great ingredient for dry skin as it is extremely similar to the oil we already produce.

3 Best Lip Oils

Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss - $22

If you were reluctant to replace your favorite lip gloss entirely, Kosas has your back. The Kosas Wet Lip Oil combines the hydrating benefits of lip oils with the high shine and gloss texture we all know and love.

Standout ingredients of this product include hyaluronic acid, peptides, avocado oil, shea butter, and konjac root. Kosas formulated the product with humectant and emollient ingredients, thus combining two steps into one.

This wet lip oil gloss has withstood the test of clinical studies, producing jaw dropping results. In a 4 week study, the gloss…

  • Increased lip plumpness by +249%
  • Improved hydration by +199%
  • Improved smoothness by +282%
  • Improved firmness by +342%

I don’t know about you but this product is at the top of my upcoming beauty haul list.

Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil - $35

As I write this article, the Dior Addict Lip Glow is completely sold out in all shades on Sephora and almost sold out on their company website. If that is not a testament to the product, I am not sure what is.

Dior’s key ingredient in this product is cherry oil, which intensely hydrates the lips and provides anti-aging benefits. Cherry oil contains a rich amount of vitamin C which helps protect the skin from pollutants and delivers skin-soothing benefits. (P.S. mom was right about the benefits of vitamin C.

Dior’s Oil also withstood the test of clinical trials, leaving lips revitalized after 5 days of application. Be sure to keep your re-stock alerts on, this oil is going quick!

Tarte Sugar Rush Lip Sip Vegan Lip Oil - $15

Tarte’s Sugar Rush Lip Sip Vegan Lip Oil is a fan favorite for a few reasons. First, it is dermatologist tested, cruelty-free, vegan, and formulated without petrolatum. Second, the selection of hydrating ingredients is off the charts. It contains jojoba, hazelnut, and sunflower seed oils. Last but not least, you reap the benefits of a glossy finish without your hair sticking to your lips.

The oil comes in five different shades and gives a glossy, sheer coverage. The formula has a raspberry sugar cookie flavor - yum! Fortunately, this $15 product will not break the bank, and Tarte runs periodic sales. As I am writing this article, it is on sale for $10.

Final Thoughts

Dermatologists and beauty gurus love lip oils and for good reason, as you can see. From hyaluronic acid and peptides to fatty acids and hydrating oils, the formulas contain high-quality ingredients. High-quality ingredients lead to high-quality results, just look at Kosas and Dior’s clinical studies.

Next time you’re shopping for new lip products, reach for a lip oil instead of a lip gloss. Your lips will thank you later!
