5 Ways To Protect Your Skin This Festival Season

As much as wandering around the desert may be a healing spiritual experience for your soul, it’s definitely not for your skin. Lucky for you, we’re festival veterans. We’ve dug up our favorite products so that the only thing you have to worry about is snagging an invite to the afterparty.

1. Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen.

This stuff will legit save your skin from sun damage - it’s the true superhero of sunscreen. The deliciously perfect goop made is made with the cleanest ingredients, and works like a dream. It’s water resistant, SPF 50, and suitable for people with sensitive skin. It also provides a fair amount of hydration, so if you’re worried about that desert dry skin, this is a good 1-2 punch.

2. Drunk Elephant Beste Jelly Cleanser.

It’ll wash off all the gunk off your face after a long day of sweating and dancing. It also contains marula oil, an antioxidant powerhouse that both guards against pollution and helps to break apart the grime on your skin.

3. Cotz Mineral based sunscreen and facetint.

The Cotz brand is all about using natural minerals to create the best sunscreens for customers. Their formula is entirely created from natural ingredients, for those of you that care about that sort of thing. The waterproof sunscreen and face tint combo comes in several different shades, and can easily be found in stores like Ulta or online. They also offer a tint free version if you’re just looking for some straight up spf protection. The best part? When you inevitably decide to dump a cold bottle of water onto your head, and get sunscreen in your eyes, your eyes won’t sting! Mind blown.

4. Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum.

What is an antioxidant serum, you ask? Consider it like your personal protective shield. Antioxidants help combat the elements responsible for the visible signs of aging, in addition to revitalizing dull-looking skin. This serum is well infused with Vitamin C and antioxidants which keep away harmful elements like smoke, UV light, and other not so fun toxins floating around the air at festivals. On top of that, the packaging is airtight and opaque so you don’t have to worry about unnecessary exposure to light and air (and you can reap the ingredient’s full benefits). If you want to spend a little less, we suggest looking at Glossier’s Super Glow as an alternative.

5. COOLA SPF 30 Organic Tinted Lip.

Don’t forget your lips! This 3-1 product is packed with hydrating ingredients like mongongo oil, organic cupuacu butter, SPF, on top of providing a hint of subtle color. It’s also water resistant so you don’t have to worry about it smudging and we can stop trying to make  ̶f̶e̶t̶c̶h̶ ̶ smudged lips happen. It’s not going to happen. While you’re out dancing in the Sahara tent at Coachella, or wherever your festive soul takes you, don’t forget to protect your skin. It can be easy to forget the little things amidst all the chaos, but your skin will thank you now and in several years. Not-so-fun reminder that sun damage can cause premature aging and can even lead to skin cancer later in life. So, taking that extra five minutes in your routine really will make a difference for your beauty and for your general health. Make sure to stock up on SPF, cleansers, and antioxidants (oh, and big, fat Kim K inspired sunglasses) before you head to the desert. By Sierra Knoch, Mirra susbscriber turned guest editor.
