Tula Skincare Review: My Take on the Cult-Favorite Probiotic Skincare

Tula Skincare Review: My Take on the Cult-Favorite Probiotic Skincare I Mirra Skincare

Finding the perfect skincare ritual is often a trial-and-error process. It’s almost like you have to *date* your skincare products. You know the routine: try a new face wash, feel out the pros and cons, realize you can’t see it fitting into your everyday life, and onto the next! It was fun, but you can’t commit. It’s not often that a product is truly “love at first sight”; let alone an entire brand. Well, after a full Tula skincare review, say hello to my new beau.

A little over a year ago, I tried my first Tula products, and we’ve been in a serious relationship ever since! Tula has not only revolutionized my skincare ritual, gracing me with the presence of products I didn’t even know I needed, but it has also transformed my skin into glowy, hydrated goodness, making me more confident and happy in my own skin (literally!) Here’s my take on the cult-favorite skincare line.

Key Points

  • Tula was founded by a gastroenterologist who realized the transformative impact that probiotics had on her patients’ skin, resulting in the use of probiotics as the basis for all of their products.
  • My five favorite products include their eye balm, cleanser, sunscreen, primer, and moisturizer.
  • Tula products are designed for all kinds of skin moods, and they have so much to offer for everyone.

The Tula Breakdown

Most skincare brands are often formulated by dermatologists, naturally, but Tula has a more unique origin story. In 2014, Tula was launched by Dr. Roshini Raj, a practicing gastroenterologist (AKA a doctor that specializes in the digestive system.)

She witnessed first-hand the transformative power that probiotics had on her patient’s health, not only internally, but externally, as their skin changed drastically, and they seemed to glow from within. She was inspired to create probiotic-based products that supplemented the skin, inspired confidence, and allowed for a healthy, balanced life. Thus, Tula was born!

Ensuring no toxic ingredients in their products, they have a long list of over 1600 ingredients on their “absolutely not” list that are never used. So what ingredients are used? And what does “probiotic-based” even mean?

As previously mentioned, probiotics form the basis for each and every Tula product. These probiotics contain a variety of good bacteria that support and restore your skin's microbiome. Our skin is the home to millions upon millions of bacteria (both good and bad) that compose our microbiome. When the bad bacteria outnumber the good, sensitive, acne-prone, dry skin can occur, as well as a variety of other skin conditions.

The probiotics in Tula products are designed to keep the good and bad bacteria in balance to leave your skin hydrated, healthy, and happy, ultimately by reducing inflammation, securing moisture, and providing the skin with vitamins.

PS, Tula is PETA-certified cruelty-free, and while not all of their products are vegan, they have a list of vegan products provided on their website.

Tula Skincare Review: My 5 favorite products

Although I could (and would) name quite a few more of my favorite Tula products, we’d probably be here all day… so I have narrowed it down. Here is a Tula skincare review of my top 5 products with honest impressions!

Glow and Get It: Cooling and Brightening Eye Balm- $28

To kick off the list of products I never knew I needed… we have the “Glow and Get It” eye balm at number one. This cooling, hydrating, and brightening eye balm stick is a game-changer after a late night out with the gals (or guys.) Your skin, especially your eyes, is a picture-perfect representation of how you’re likely feeling: tired.

Introducing… the holy grail eye balm to eliminate all puffiness, redness, fine lines, and wrinkles that surround your eyes. It can be applied throughout the day under or on top of concealer and sunscreen for an instant refreshing feel. Honestly, after a hot shower, nothing feels better than applying a little cooling balm around your eyes.

We all know that caffeine wakes up our brains and bodies, but did you know it wakes up your skin too? The caffeine firms and tightens the skin, probiotics smooth and calm irritation, hyaluronic acid moisturizes, and blueberry (a superfood) hydrates and protects sensitive skin. And if you don’t want to take my word for it, studies revealed that 93% of users felt that after just one week, their skin felt firmer and smoother, and their eyes felt more revived.

The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser- $28

I think this one speaks for itself. A cult classic that you too could fall victim to if you try it out for yourself! This cleanser doubles as an exfoliator and cleanser as it removes impurities, dirt, and makeup without overdoing it. Not to mention the smell is heavenly; it leaves you feeling clean and refreshed like nothing else. This cleanser makes me look forward to my skincare ritual every morning and night.

What ingredients make this cleanser work its magic? It is chock-full of probiotic extracts, prebiotics, and superfoods (namely turmeric, white tea, and blueberry) to satisfy sensitive skin. After just 4 weeks, 100% of users agreed their skin looked healthier and smoother after using this iconic face wash.

A good face wash forms the foundation of your skincare ritual. It’s time to find one you’re in love with!

Mineral Magic Mineral Sunscreen Fluid Broad Spectrum SPF 30- $38

Tula says it best themselves when they call this stuff, “the sunscreen of your dreams.” We all know sunscreen is absolutely critical to protecting your skin from long-lasting damage from the sun’s UV rays, but what about a sunscreen that takes action against destructive blue light and pollution? This mineral sunscreen really does it all!

There is nothing I hate more than thick sunscreen that leaves you feeling greasy and gross. This formula is lightweight and goes on silky smooth. Not only does it have a matte finish to avoid the dreaded oily look, but it helps control natural oils from your skin throughout the day (a true win if you have oily skin like me!) There is no synthetic fragrance in this SPF, but it still manages to smell delicious. I attribute it to the natural peach or ginger superfoods. A real must-have if you haven’t incorporated sunscreen into your ritual yet. And even if you already have, TBH.

Filter Primer: Blurring and Moisturizing Primer- $36

This product is 100% my go-to, holy-grail Tula product at the moment. Although it’s called a primer, this glowy, slightly tinted illuminator doubles as a “foundation” if you’re going for that no-makeup-makeup look (that I go for pretty much every time.) The primer comes in 5 different shade options; however, as soon as you start to apply it, it matches your skin tone to create a sheer, buildable base. Add a little concealer around your eyes, and voilá! No-makeup-makeup look achieved.

My favorite part about this primer is that it isn’t just makeup. This primer actively cares for your skin with ingredients including licorice, butterfly bush to reduce the appearance of dark spots, and rosemary and chamomile to appease redness. Using this as my base, I never feel sticky, dirty, or greasy like foundation can sometimes make you feel. I couldn’t recommend it more.

24-7 Moisture: Hydrating Day and Night Cream- $52

Last, but certainly not least, we have the only moisturizer you will ever need for the rest of your life. This moisturizer can be applied in the mornings, before bed, throughout the day; you name it! Full of peptides, squalane, apple, and watermelon, and (of course) the probiotics and prebiotics, 24-7 moisture will stay true to its name and leave your skin hydrated, plump, and glowing for days. After almost 4000 reviews on their website, this product still manages to have 4.8/5 stars, and for good reason.

My one complaint is that this moisturizer is pretty thick, and it’s really easy to overdo it. Once you master applying the perfect amount, this product works wonders. Not to mention, it is designed for all skin moods ranging from oily, to dry and blemish-prone skin; t’s got something good for everyone.

Final Thoughts

Just in case you can’t tell from my Tula skincare review, I’m a little bit obsessed. I have yet to find a brand that makes my skin feel as special and appreciated as Tula does. It’s been there for me on my worst skin days and has continued to support me at my best. For someone who doesn’t love taking a ton of time and energy for my skincare ritual, I couldn’t ask for more from Tula!
